New Record! 58.22 sec for a 1300 cc car!

Its an RWYB race weekend again, this time i left without tammy... Tammy's restoration is still a work in progress...

So Almay and I hitched with Philip and KR, drove black wing from QC to Subic, the 4g18's response is nice. its just lacking torque, its probably because its carrying 4 adults with some tools and equipment inside the trunk. Was trying to make a top speed again but all the passengers where ranting not to. (Killjoy!)

We left Manila by 7:30 pm Saturday and arrived at Subic by 10:30ish, Met up with MSC, (Pat, Jun who drove to Subic earlier that day), Prepped Warcar (patrick's 94 Mitsubishi Lancer EL) at BnJ autogarage
We stayed overnight to secure a covered parking, so the intention is to go to SIR 6 in the morning to park the car, and THEY did that. hehehe... Im not a morning person anymore, Ihate waking up in the morning, so while i was asleep, the guys walk around the track...

at around 8 we were already at the track, and the new addition to the crew...
1.KR (c/o Pilip)
2.Mark (fortis)
3.Uly (fortis)
4.PeeGee
5. Carlo

Im looking for a pic in which you guys were all there ( can't find one).

Here's some highlights:

Voter's application?... Nope. RWYB round 4 registration.
Shout out to Patrick Sison who let me drive potpot (94' Mitsubishi Lancer EL 1300 cc).
Bracketing for potpot
F: 1'03" -Benj Go
E: 1'00" -Patrick Sison
D: 58" -AJ Lacambra ( got my qualifying at 58.92 and 58.73)

yes, you are right. Potpot drove 3 classes that day, which means 3 qualifying sessions, 3 runs for heat 1, 3 runs for heat 2. for every run Potpot has a hot lap, 2 timed laps, and a cooldown. count how many times did potpot ran that day... (sigh.. lost count, hehehe...)

of course thanks also to Benj who let us use his ad07 for track day! cheers to you and patrick!

Now, anybody will think its like raping a car that day... which i think what Potpot had felt. during the first heat, Potpot has its carb piston stuck on FULL THROTTLE during my session!... it was scary... entering the sweeping left (turn 2) with full throttle going to chicane! imagine that ;P

I got a hold of the situation using left foot braking.... and while i was doing the braking.. was slamming the accelerator (was thinking the accel cable was stuck not the piston, hoping slamming the accel pedal will release the stuck up, which it did!)

so i came in the pit and let my knight in shining armor, repair it. (its Jun.) I told the guys what i encountered, being a carb engine really not sure what happened... Jun checked the engine and says "its just the carb piston stucked... we just need carb cleaner" --- tadaaaa! its done...

Many thanks to Jun Alavaro! the driver of the year for 2009 RWYB! :D

Come lunchtime, thanks to Xtremely Xpresso for the pizza!

As you can see in the pic the size of their pizza is that big! it almost cover the whole of the hood of Jun's car but its not the only asset the Xtremely Xpresso has on their pizza. Its also yummy! Two whole pizza's were enough to make 16 hungry stomachs go "Burp"... hehehe...

After the siesta...
people were looking for places to sleep! hehehe.. .the food was that good!

before going to heat 2, was able to check how my first heat was..
Heat 1
Timed lap 1 58.30
Timed lap 2 58.29

pretty consistent... and taught of using the same lines still...
Heat 2
Timed lap 1 58.22 --- my new record for a 1300 car with trim
Timed lap 58.28

and now the results:
Its our first timer on 2nd place on bracket G 1'06". KR (the female wearing Toyota shirt)

Fresh from US, Benj Go, who let us use his Neova AD07. 1st Place on Bracket F 1'03".

On bracket E 1'00" on 2nd place PeeGee!(wearing brown) and on 1st place Pilip! (wearing red)

I'm on bracket D 58'22", took 2nd place .

Sir Edwin on bracket B 54'00"

Thank you guys!

4g18 SOHC Top speed

Chester let me drive his car, was really enjoying the sound and styling. it was nice, but it was just an icing on the cake. Was able to drive the cedia to its top speed. It made my day! hehehe...

Cheers!

Realizations... and Rants.. just bear it... hehehe...

It just struck me, there's ceiling a "tipid racer" will bump into. regardless of the skill he has, a car will move not go beyond its limits, so what a driver can do is always be at the limit of the car to achieve the best possible time

But a daily driven lancer with 120 BHP, r1 coilover, (dead damper) and evo brakes, 15's 195/55/15 neova's will only run 51.XX sec on track. and to achieve it my balls are literally at my neck and that im "in the game". been hitting 53.XX s lately...

I have found that to be able to achieve 4X.XX secs, i would need to strip my car of AC, power steering, trim, and probably fiberglass all removable panels, then purchase intermediate tires.
2nd option is to go turbo and lightening, etc...

but it would defeat "tipidracing's ideal", which is to be competitive yet affordable.

Call it sour graping or whatever, its really injustice to fight with superlightened b16, d16T, b18 Honda's, Subaru's with 200 whp with all the intermediate tires they use. I think time bracketing losses the realization of who has the skills.

people may say, its about being precise on the bracket, but really, please tell me, how can you become faster if you're not aiming for a faster time, and what you are aiming for is just a repeat of what you've done the last time?

its not easy to kickass without burning money in Class A or fastest time... i should have just stayed in Class B on my 1.6 SOHC 90 whp with 54.XX sec lap time and go with the flow about being precise...

My 3rd 4g63 Engine... Darn!

After opening Tammy's engine, this is what welcomed us... plus signs of hot spotting on cylinder 3, the piston and head have this rough and almost pimple like of dents on piston. Plus the block itself needs some rebuilding itself. So We ordered another engine for tammy

I grew tired of not having a reliable engine, and what tammy looks, honestly she has so many scratches, dents, dents, etc... can't bear what she looks right now...

so she's in for a paint upgrade... still thinking if i should stay on Anzhal triple 888 or totally change her color. what do you think?

To the moon and back on a trailer truck

So we know that Tammy broke down when im on my way to subic, hence i need to leave him behind going back to Santa Rosa...

I asked favor from Pilip (Child Of Owner of Philem Enterprise Inc. in Subic, hehehe) to park Tammy for a while in their compound, while i look for a tow truck

I was able to source out a tow truck and have Tammy delivered to Las Pinas...

Yellow brick road to SIR (RWYB 3rd round 09)

I stayed up late Saturday evening, was really trying hard to sleep early but unfortunately was able to sleep past 2 in the morning.

I wake up around 6 in the morning, (which is late if we thinking of going to subic and by 7:30 reg starts) still contemplating if i should race or not.. did'nt really think of it much, just drove to subic and tried to catch the registration.

I drove 180 kph from Santa Rosa to Edsa, mellowed a bit and then 180 again once in NLEX, then SCTEX, my engine has a speed limit, once you touch the 180 kph, it cuts the fuel... so i let it like that for the duration of SLEX, NLEX, SCTEX. which has a bad combination of low octane gas on a high comp engine...

I heard a early detonation (knocking) on my engine but didnt actually bothered to lower down the speed, which i think broke my engine. so after that NLEX, SCTEX pedal to the metal when i was approaching around 5 to 7 kms before the Subic toll, i heard knocknig again, this time with sudden loss of power... know i now im in trouble. so I limp my car on 60 kph thru the toll and stopped after the toll, and try to fix tammy, looked on the spark plugs, 2 cylinders are not creating power... oh my, was thinking did i made my head gasket blown again???!!! apparently not yet...

Called up some friends, Jun, Jeff, Pilip, Pat to help out... Guided me to a shop and tried solve the problem, but to no avail. So we came back to SIR to finish the RWYB 3rd round. Phat lent me his car.

Fortunately enough, I won third place for the 1.00 class... hehehe... thanks war car!

anyways its done deal for me for the day but a very very long one for tammy!

RWYB Weekend

Despite the heavy rain and crazy traffic (we were literally on the road for 8 hours!), we went to Subic last July 17 to 18 for the 2nd round of RWYB.

The initial plan was for us to do our DIY's first (reason why we decided to go the night before the race) when we get there and then discuss our sponsorship contracts. However, because we were all tired and the weather wasn't at all cooperating, we just ended up having dinner at Xtremely Xpresso (our newest sponsor, by the way).

L-R from Top: Cye, Patrick, Philip, AJ, Jun, Jeff

We were up as early as 5:30 the next morning for preps and to get the best parking slots. Here's what we found outside Philip's house (where we stayed for the night):

Pearl, White Hawk, and Tammy - drenched!

Imagine how wet the road was at the raceway! Because the track was slippery and visibility was so poor, we were required to do one orientation run before we actually did the timed laps. Bracket times were also deferred 2-3 secs due to the weather conditions (translate: water puddles on the track) so most of the players decided to join Bracket G.

dmott with his pearl

edwin and his 93 turbo

According to the organizers, Sir Kookie and Ms Menchie, this was the worst weather RWYB has ever seen. That didn't stop us though, because the Motorports Crew still managed to bag several podium finishes:

Bracket G: 3rd place - Patrick Sison (phat_tricks)
Bracket F: 2nd place - Philip Velasco (p L i p)
Bracket D: 2nd place - Edwin Rodriguez (edwin)

Unfortunately, White hawk got into an accident...

Get well soon, MLPH MSC supports you.

While Tammy and I ended up having a breakout with 56 low & 57 high sec for Bracket C, which is supposed to be 58+ secs. Darn! I should've stopped for 1 sec a meter or two before the finish line.. lol.

We were all tired at the end of the day but it was all worth it. My take away ----
"Real Racers drive on wet track, posers dont" -- kookie R.

PS
Almay drove back home, I ask her to push tammy a bit. She did make 160 kph along SCTEX, wet condition, too bad wasnt able to document it...

During the latter part of the day, while we were chillin' in Pilip's black cedia, we discovered something - it's a lot cooler when you put salonpas on the vents! hahaha! ---- try it!!!! (its due to the menthol effect of the eucalyptus)

Finally, since I wasn't able to spend the Sunday with my wife, I made it up to her by taking her to Kanin Club for dinner. (Try their crispy dinuguan and jampacked fried rice! It's really a treat!) Nothing beats that to cap off a tiring race day. Til next!

Tammy's first show as display car

Tammy's first ever display as show car in SM Sucat was held last June 19 to 21st.

It was really her first time to show her beauty not on the road but as a display car...

I know she has bruises, scars and such... but still she looks pretty. (biased!) hehehe...

Tammy shook my world!

Tammy had this crazy problem... random stalling!

The usual failure mode of stalling are the following:
1. No fuel

if you have no fuel, you need to check the filter if its blocking it due to too much dirt in filter. if its not the filter check the pump, does it deliver fuel? its not then that's the culprit

2. No spark

specifically for the 4g63 engine which is distributor less... the things you need to check are coil pack, transistor, CAS (cam angle sensor), Powe relay from ignition to ECU, ECU.

But for tammy, i have checked all of it already but everything is working! I was at my wits end when a friend unknowingly pulled the wiring harness! and the symptom displayed... we had the "AHA" moment.. We just found what the culprit is, its the harness the wiring pulled off! so right now tammy's harness is currently pulled out and have all the connection soldered.. whew!

Thanks to phat_tricks and Chester for towing my car and helping me out solve the freaking prob!

i'll post some pics later

Intersection Ahead!!! Stop Look and Listen!

There will come a point in which you will practically buy a 2nd car for daily use. specially if you want to be competitive in the racing scene.

Its simply is not feasible to have a daily driven race car. I have tried it for almost 3 years already and believe me... here's whats going to happen to you...

you will start with a compromise with the suspension.. needs a stiffer suspension which means harsh ride on daily drive. (R1 coilover and cruven shocks) or buy a full coilover which is costly

next is that you need better gripping tires.. you WILL buy another set of wheels for the race weekend because you need to time better, FASTER. ( i will iterate.. thats 1 set of magwheels and 1 set of grippy tires, Neova's usually for people who dont have money)...

you also need better brakes.. i used twin pot front brakes of an evo and slapped it to Tammy...

now you need to tune your suspension settings, camber, toe... you need negative camber and outward toe... which means its going to eat your daily driven tires on the inner most part.. which means early retirement of daily driven tire or you simply go to your favorite alignment shop and pay them before and after the race weekend to adjust your camber and toe...

dont forget maintenance dues... if you're on stock engine! ( in which i really would recommend) its a lot less headache.. just follow the service manual on what to replace but on a shorter length of service time for each part... like for example... timing belt for Mitsubishi its usually 80,000 km before it needs replacement... i do it on the 60,000 km...

now its different if you swapped engine! (arggh!, thats also me) there's a reason why the previous owner removed that engine...meaning, it has problems back then and reviving it is costly... its breakdown is frequent and its maintenance cost is also high.

It even come to a point that the car is not reliable for daily use anymore... it breaksdown from time to time... broken sensor here, due for maintenance... etc etc... which disrupts your daily chores... and me who can't stand the fact knowing that Tammy is not running (my life stops when she not working)

and now its official, i bought another car to support Tammy on the daily chores. I still love Tammy, she's still my baby but she's now more focused on race weekends rather than my all around baby.

This is Wacks, Tammy's younger sister. She will be our daily car... (for now! ;P)

7G Galant VR 2.0 DOHC V6 --- stock!

PS, The real trigger point was that my wife is now carrying my JR. and i dont want her stressed during travel and I need a reliable and comfortable car for my wife and soon to be baby!... cheers!

RWYB 2nd Round postponed!

RWYB 2nd round was supposedly ran last June 7th but due to bad weather incoming that week, it was postponed to a later date. July 19th i think...

Lucky me, cause Tammy was not ready for that weekend. hehehe...

Anyways, there was a race for 7th of June, its the 5th leg of Slalom Racing held at Robinsons Santa Rosa, since RWYB was postponed the group joined the Slalom in Santa Rosa...

Tammy never ran, I borrowed phat_tricks 1.3 Car just to scratch my itch for speed... its soothing but definitely not quenching. :P

Right now, i'm still looking for Tammy's random stalling... but now i do have some suspects already.. will be fixing within this week. Hope my suspects are the culprits!

RWYB Extreme May 24, 2007

It was a disappointing 53.30 secs compared to the 51.62 i was able to get last time i was there.

I was actually hoping that 51.XX would be very achievable with the current suspension upgrades and tuning I made.

Probably its mostly me having been not racing in a while. Let's see in June 7 for RWYB.

Suspension upgrades

After 3 long years of using Cruven adjustable shock and R1 coilovers, i got a good deal of KYB AGX and Ground control coilover sleeves.

Pix of difference between R1 and Ground Control sleeves

The KYB AGX i bought was originally for an eclipse... which was then used for a Galant VR-4, then handed over to me... so we removed the catch plate, just to be able to fit it in my car and possibly lower the car even more...

finished product...

Thanks to Norman (telecaster, Telecstr) for the AGX, sleeves and Chester of CARSPECS Performance for the insallation.

2008 - 09 Race Buddies

Mitsulancerph Motorsport Crew - i know, i know, I came originally from Team Mymitsuph, but probably after reading my previous post, Team Mymitsuph became inactive in the novice racing scene, and after a while of being alone for them and getting not much support from the team, We transferred,

A pic of the MLPH Motorsport crew now...

sadly, Joel learned something new, a new hobby, practical shooting... so he stopped playing, well at least for now, not sure when they will be going back.

JR, on the other hand, is just picking days on when he would play, unlike before when there is a race we are definitely there. i think he's going hill climb next time.

Anyways, You guys are missed!
